Hotel Recommendations

We recommend staying at the InterContinental Houston - Medical Center located on Main Street. The InterContinental is a 15-minute walk to the Moody Center for the Arts on campus. If you have mobility issues or prefer not to walk, all nearby hotels should offer free shuttles that will drop you off at the Rice University for the conference. Please arrange shuttle service with the hotel well in advance of when you need it. Accessible rooms available.

Travel within Houston

Rice University is situated between the Museum District, The Houston Medical Center, Hermann Park, and Rice Village. All of these areas are pedestrian-friendly and approximately a 10- to 15-minute walk apart. The free Rice University shuttle service also serves these areas from campus. Downtown Houston is accessible via the METRORail Redline, a tram service with a convenient station between Rice and Hermann Park. If you are staying at the Intercontinental, the hotel has a complimentary shuttle for destinations within three miles of the property. (Rice University, the Museum District, Hermann Park, and Rice Village are well within the boundaries.)

Flying to Houston

The city of Houston is served by two airports: George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). We recommend William P. Hobby Airport due to its closer proximity to Rice University. If you have any questions about arranging flights or Houston’s airports, please do not hesitate to contact us and ask.

Options from the airports to Rice University

Rice University is not reached very easily via public transportation. Taxi service is easily arranged but can be costly. We recommend Uber and Lyft, which operate across metropolitan Houston.
