VCS Registration

Rice University's Visual Communication Symposium (VCS) 2023 is a two-day symposium for scientists, researchers, graduate students, and non-profit representatives to explore new ways of visualizing their work. This year’s theme is “Because the data doesn’t speak for itself.” Instead, it’s humans—with all their creativity and biases—who collect, analyze, visualize, and interpret data. At VCS 2023, we will explore the ways we use visualization to make data “speak.” We’ll have networking, workshops, and talks from experts.

The featured speakers at VCS 2023 are Jonathan Schwabish (Urban Institute, PolicyViz), Vidya Setlur (Tableau), Lace Padilla (UC Merced), and Jessica Davison (United Way of Greater Houston). We are also offering two showcases led by data viz practitioners and three hands-on workshops.

You can register for the event here.

If you are a Rice University faculty or staff member, or a Rice graduate student, registration for the symposium is free. You must have a Rice University email address to use this registration option.

For all other attendees, registration is $40.00.

The registration fee includes presentations and showcases by leading experts in different areas of visual communication as well as breakfast and lunch for two days.

Note: Registration is refundable at 80% of the fee ($32) until Friday, February 24. After that, there are no refunds.
After the conclusion of the symposium, we will send a short survey to the email address you provided on the registration form to help us assess the symposium.
